Hello Parents;
With our school being closed, one of the saddest things will be the fact that we are unable to talk about the importance of Easter to our students. Being able to tell the stories that led up to the crucifixion of Christ is vital to celebrating this event. We hope that you will have time to talk to your children about this Sunday and the meaning of what took place on the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem.
If you choose Matthew 21 to talk about the Palm Sunday event, please note a few things. The disciples he asked to go and find the donkey, did just as Jesus asked. They could have brought him a magnificent horse but they chose to do what Jesus asked them to do. Are we as obedient as these disciples. If Jesus asks us to do something, do we follow his direction or do we do what we think is best.
Jesus chose to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey, in part to fulfill and Old Testament prophecy found in Zechariah 9:9, "Your king is coming to you, lowly and riding on a donkey." But also because of the symbolism of coming on a donkey. His kingdom was not to be one of an earthly army, a horse would have symbolized that. Instead the donkey was a symbol of Christ's message, much like his birth, it was humble and lowly and was not out of reach for anyone who is searching.
We need to honour God through our obedience, just as his disciples did who brought the donkey to him. Do not let the closure of your church stop you from preparing yourself and your family for Easter. This is the most important time of the year for Christians. If it were not for Easter and the death and resurrection of Jesus, thenour faith would be foolishness. 1 Corinthians 15:17
