Week #3 update

Good afternoon! It seems that we’ve got most of the bugs worked out in terms of scheduling and getting students in the right classes. For those high school students who haven’t quite got into all your online courses yet, we thank you for your patience. A big thanks goes out to Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Wasik for ingenuity and creativity in tweaking schedules and timetables to try and get students into the courses they need.

Teacher Meet and Greet (Thursday, Sept. 26: 4-6pm)
This event is a chance for you to meet your child(ren)’s teachers before we get too far into the school year. This is a great opportunity to see how your child is doing and also ask questions about how your child can be successful in each of their classes.

Grade 9-12 Career Planning (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
Of particular importance for parents of students grade 9-12 will be the presentation of opportunities offered by Palliser outside of the normal scope of a regular school setting. Charlene Foster, Career and Academic Counsellor and Off-Campus Coordinator for Palliser Beyond Borders, will be our special guest and she will be explaining opportunities such as the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), Work Experience, the Green Certificate as well as the abundance of dual-credit courses offered. In addition, Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Wasik will field your questions as with regards to the credits and courses needed for your sons/daughters to best prepare themselves for their career goals beyond high school. Mrs. Foster will be giving her presentation twice; at 4pm and 5pm with time built in for a Q & A session. Please fill in the Google Form at this link to let us know which session you would like to attend, so we can prepare accordingly.

Diploma/PAT Preparation Resources
As diploma exam scores can be a determining factor for acceptance into post-secondary schools, we are offering proven resources to help our students who are taking 30-level courses this year. Ordering through the school results in substantial savings.  Brant Christian School students can get Castle Rock study guides at a school discount between 2024-09-19 - 2024-10-03! These resources are aligned to the 2024-25 Alberta curriculum in Math, Science, English Language Arts and Social Studies. Order HERE.

FlipGive
FlipGive is an app that you can use to raise money for Brant Christian without spending extra money or with extra hassle. All you do is download the app and scan the app for each purchase you make at a participating vendor. The vendors reimburse FlipGive a portion of the purchase amount; FlipGive takes a small percentage of that and then passes the rest of that reimbursement to Brant Christian School. It is easy and, best of all, there is no extra money coming out of your pocket! We had a prize draw for society members who joined Brant's FlipGive Team and purchased a gift card by September 13th, and we have a winner - Lisa Johnson. Lisa wins a $50 "AnyCard" gift card. Congratulations Lisa!

Volleyball
Fall is the season for volleyball for many of our older students. We've had outstanding support from the entire Brant community in the form of volunteer coaches that has allowed us to field a triple ball team, boys and girls junior A teams, a boys junior varsity team as well as girls and boys senior varsity teams. Many thanks go out to all the volunteer coaches and Mrs. Sierra Massey and Mrs. Chrissie Nauta who keep the volleyball community (i.e. players, coaches, parents) organized though the Team Linkt app. If you get the chance, give a special thanks to Mrs. Campbell, our new Athletic Director, who pulls all the scheduling, tournaments, buses, practices, fees, equipment, uniforms and many things together to make the fun of volleyball season a reality. This weekend our Sr. Girls are participating in a Tournament being held at Prairie Christian Academy In Three Hills. Go Eagles!!

Cross Country
If you have a child in gr. Jr/Sr High who is a promising cross country runner, but forgot to come out for the cross country running team, please send this child to cross country coach Mrs. Goodfellow in order to sign up for Brant Christian cross country team.

We have a "Write On" bulletin board at school in the main hallway where our student's achievements can be posted and celebrated! Simply send a note with an article or photo to Cathy Massey, catherine.massey@pallisersd.ab.ca, who will print it and post it on the board. Simple as that!
